The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is preparing to roll out a new approach for the allocation of agricultural Crown land leases.
According to the provincial government, the change – which takes effect Nov. 9 – will see lease opportunities offered online through McDougall Auctioneers Ltd. “on an ongoing basis as they become available.”

The ministry said the new approach will create a more responsible allocation process by offering eligible leases of Crown land – including expired leases – as they become available rather than through a single annual offering to producers. The online system will help ensure fair access and a transparent process, the ministry added, by treating all producers equally.
“Saskatchewan producers rely on access to agricultural Crown land to support their operations and grow their businesses,” David Marit, Saskatchewan’s agriculture minister, said in a statement. “By moving to an ongoing allocation model, we are providing a transparent and accessible process that better aligns lease opportunities with producer needs and supports a strong and competitive agriculture sector.”
Lease offerings and eligibility requirements can be found on the provincial government’s website.
