Regina’s most vulnerable residents will have opportunities to escape the cold starting Sunday.
The City of Regina said its warming spaces open for the season on Nov. 1. Daytime warming spaces include all city facilities, all branches of the Regina Public Library and a number of community organizations.

Overnight warming spaces are provided at Carmichael Outreach on 12th Avenue, the Newo-Yotina Friendship Centre on 11th Avenue and Awasiw on Fifth Avenue. Awisaw has already opened its space, the city said, and operates 23 hours a day, with the facility closed over the noon hour.
“The City of Regina distributes $1.1 million of provincial funds to these groups for the operation and expansion of warming spaces in the city,” the City of Regina said in a statement.
Warming spaces may be in high demand this year, as the city recently dismantled a large homeless camp in Core Community Park, citing the potential for fires.
Regina fire chief Layne Jackson said cold weather increases the risk of fires at encampments around the city.
“What we can confirm is a pattern of folks bringing open flame devices and open fires into their tents, along with compressed gases such as propane, which creates a very, very dangerous and imminent situation,” Jackson said earlier this week.
Warming space locations and hours can be found on the City of Regina’s website.
