Commuters who make use of Idylwyld Drive might want to think about an alternate route as lane restrictions on the busy thoroughfare start Monday.
According to the City of Saskatoon, restrictions will be in place in the southbound lanes of Idylwyld Drive North starting at 7 a.m. Monday to make room for repairs to the overpass at 51st Street and Avenue C North, which was struck and damaged by a semi carrying a large grain bin on July 24.

“The work will be completed in the southbound curb and acceleration lanes, with traffic shifted to the median lane,” the city said in a statement.
“The southbound exit ramp to 51st Street will remain open throughout the project.”
The work is expected to last about six weeks, and the city said construction will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, as long as both scheduling and the weather co-operate.
“Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, anticipate delays and use caution when travelling through the work zone,” the city noted.
The crash in July marked the fifth overpass strike in Saskatoon in 2026. Two more have occurred since then.

Police said the driver who struck the 51st Street overpass “failed to heed the height restrictions of the 51st St overpass.”
The driver was given a ticket for driving without due care and attention. Police said the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol handed the driver three additional tickets for failing to complete a pre-trip inspection, an over-height load and failing to clear a structure.
