Republican Barry Moore won election Tuesday to the U.S. Senate representing Alabama, defeating Democrat Everett Wess. Moore, a south Alabama congressman, got President Donald Trump’s endorsement ahead of his primary runoff victory earlier this year. Moore will succeed Sen. Tommy Tuberville, a Republican who ran for governor rather than seek a second Senate term. Wess, a criminal defense lawyer, was a longshot candidate in a state that has elected a Democrat to the Senate only once since 1992. The Associated Press declared Moore the winner at 11:17 p.m. EST.
