Regina police have been asked to look into the sudden death of a woman who was in RCMP custody on Saturday.
RCMP said the woman was in an Indian Head RCMP detachment cell Saturday but did not indicate if the woman was found injured. Police said first responders tried to help the 46-year-old woman, but she was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. at the Indian Head Hospital.
As per RCMP policy, another police force has been asked to investigate. Regina police will report the findings of their investigation to the Ministry of Justice and Attorney general. The RCMP has also asked the province to appoint an independent observer.
RCMP did not release the woman’s name.
