A strike has been averted between Evraz and the unions representing the company’s employees.
On Facebook Thursday, United Steel Workers 5890 wrote they, along with Local 6673, had reached a tentative agreement with Evraz.
The post stated the bargaining committee fully supports the contract and advised people to attend their regularly scheduled shifts.
The union had issued a strike notice earlier this week, with workers’ last shifts to be worked Thursday night.
The union said a ratification meeting takes place Sept. 13.
The premier is likely breathing a sigh of relief over this news.
Brad Wall was recently hailing the work done by Saskatchewan steel workers in reaction to two major pipeline projects getting approved.
Regardless of the outcome, Wall didn’t believe Evraz would be any less competitive.
“I don’t think this would put us at a competitive disadvantage because there is the chance for work place changes in other plants where they exist as well,” Wall said.
Evraz is one of the largest employers in Regina with 1,500 people working there.
