Chris Jones scores big points for the decisive manner in which he handled the quarterback question after Saturday’s win in Toronto.
If the head coach would have wavered in his confidence for Kevin Glenn as the #1 guy, well the Green Zone this week would have been full of QB controversy talk. But as fun as those debates are, they can also become destructive to a team.
The media would have to ask the questions about it and it would be a distraction going into crunch time for the rest of the season.
Instead, Jones gave Glenn a 100 per cent vote of confidence that he is their starter and Brandon Bridge is just coming out of the bullpen.
Jones didn’t quite silence the quarterback talk, I don’t think you can ever do that in Saskatchewan. But it is something to watch.
If Glenn continues his month of mediocrity in October and Bridge continues to show he’s the more productive QB, it doesn’t matter what Jones says, it will become much bigger.
For now, Jones softened the debate. Now it’s up to Glenn to silence it.
