It may have slipped your mind to pay that parking ticket, but the City of Regina hasn’t forgotten.
It is going into the vault and sending notices to those with outstanding fines, some going back by a decade.
“We have been more aggressive for a while because we realize this has to be and should be done, Regina Mayor Michael Fougere told the 980 CJME Morning Show on Tuesday.
It has become clear the city is taking this approach for budgetary reasons.
“Trying to find ways to save money, it’s an obvious choice to go and for those that have parking tickets that have not paid— to ask them to pay those tickets,” Fougere said,
The City of Regina is owed close to $7 million in unpaid tickets, which is something Fougere contends cannot go on anymore.
“These are not the biggest offenders if you will, one or two tickets I understand that but nonetheless, we do have an obligation that if you got your tickets you should pay the fine,” Fougere argued.
The city has said in the past that there are some offenders who have outstanding parking fines of $10,000.
