There’s now an official date for Saskatchewan’s 28th general election.
According to Elections Saskatchewan, voters in the province will head to the polls April 4, 2016.
The provincial election was originally scheduled for Nov. 2, 2015 but because of the overlap with the federal election, it legally had to be moved to the first Monday of April of the following year under The Legislative Assembly Act, 2007.
When Prime Minister Stephen Harper dropped the writ this past Sunday, that automatically pushed Saskatchewan’s election ahead to the spring, which was widely believed would happen.
The province has a total of 61 constituencies. That’s up three from 2011.
