Regina police are trying spread the message that carrying bear spray as a weapon is illegal after responding to it being sprayed at people 44 times this year so far.
They say it isn’t an offence to buy bear spray. But the Regina Police Service says carrying any device in order to harm another person is illegal.
Officers are also working with retailers to educate them about the Federal Pest Control Products Act, under which bear spray is regulated.
Anyone buying bear spray is expected to provide photo identification and sign a waiver. Police can review those waivers if they need.
