20-foot flares popping up south of Saskatoon

Don’t panic if you see 20-foot flames popping up south of Saskatoon.

On Tuesday TransGas, the pipeline subsidiary of SaskEnergy will be conducting controlled flares of natural gas southwest of Saskatoon near PotashCorp’s Cory mine.

The first flare will run for about 30 minutes from 2 to 2:30 p.m. with a second flare burning from 4 to 4:30 p.m. TransGas said the flares are necessary to help them upgrade the pipeline system.

The area around the flares will be supervised to ensure the public’s safety. TransGas and SaskEnergy services will not be disrupted during controlled flares.
