It’s the biggest Canadian curling event of the year but there’s much more to do at the Tim Horton’s Brier than just watching the world-class athletes.
The Brier will be held at the Brandt Centre until March 11 and will feature the best curlers from across Canada as they compete to represent Canada at the 2018 World Men’s Curling Championship.
One of the fan favourite events at the tournament every year is the Brier Patch, which features live music, food and drinks.
Rob Dewhirst is the events manager for Curling Canada and said this year’s ‘Patch’ could be among the biggest ever.
“With the new (International Trade Centre) building on the grounds we’ve been able to continue one of the traditions of probably having the biggest patch ever on our Brier circuit,” Dewhirst told the 980 CJME Morning Show.
Another new addition to this year’s Brier Patch will be the move to a cashless bar system.
“You don’t have to line up twice, you don’t have to go to one location to buy a token or ticket for your drink, you’ll just be able to go right to the bar to a point-of-sale machine and any debit or credit card is going work on that system.”
There will also be autograph opportunities with the team throughout the tournament.
All of the events throughout the weekend are made possible by the 560 volunteers at the event.
“It’s just wonderful to see that kind of support from the community and from around, we’ve got people coming from quite a ways away to be a volunteer.”
The tournament will be on at the Brandt Centre until March 11.
