You know those times in life when you get a get a glimpse of the past and it brings a smile to your face.
This weekend at the Brier, one of those moments was seeing a grandmother walking around with their grandchild.
You see, that was me, every time a major curling event came to Regina. The Brier in 1992 and the Scotties in 1998. I could be found taking in a few draws with grandma.
She taught me about the sport. Those little things.; stand when the bagpipes bring in the players, don’t cheer misses.
Yes, she’d be going crazy with today’s spectators. She was old school.
She taught me the etiquette of the sport and even more so taught me to love the game, its traditions and its strategy.
Her and my grandfather travelled the country and the globe to follow their favourite sport. Maybe I’ll bring her pinned filled jacket this week to pay tribute.
So to whoever you were over the weekend showing your grandchild the beauty of the game. Thanks for bringing back great memories.
And thanks to Grandma Dot.
