With hay on the floors, cows sharing the aisles with people, and a certain smell in the air, the Canadian Western Agribition is all set to go.
On Sunday, the finishing touches were being put on booths, brochures, and livestock.
Scott Fettes was going over things with his teenage daughters at his company’s booth. Like many people at the show, he said Agribition is the main event of the year for him.
“(We) see all our old customers we’ve dealt with for years, and find a few new ones to sell our bulls in the spring … We used to bring in bulls to the Regina bull sale for years, but now that’s done with, this is basically the only time we bring out cattle.”
The show is in its 45th year, and Fettes has been coming for at least 25 of those, showing cattle with family, first his parents and brother, then his own kids.
He said there are some things, like arrangement of the booths and pens, that have changed.
“But as far as the people and developing connections and all that, that really hasn’t changed any at all.”
Though Fettes said he will be hard at work most of the time, he will be taking some time out for family. His teenage daughter will compete in the high school rodeo, and his son will be showing cattle on the weekend.
Agribition opens on Monday, and runs until Saturday.
