Children playing with a lighter ignited a fire inside a Sutherland home.
At around 8:45 p.m. dispatchers received a call about smoke coming from a duplex at 106 Imperial Street. Upon arrival, the city’s fire department evacuated the home and found a mattress on fire in a basement bedroom. Heavy smoke caused damage throughout the home.
No one was hurt in the fire. A fire investigator pegged the damage at $30,000.
