Impaired driving is top factor contributing to fatal crashes in Saskatchewan for the second year in a row.
A crash can have up to four factors, according to SGI, and in 2014 impaired driving was the top factor, followed by speed, and then distracted driving.
Impaired driving has long been the top factor, except in 2012 when distracted driving moved to the top.
Drugs and alcohol were involved in about 1,300 crashes on average every year between 2010 and 2014, resulting in 58 deaths, and 686 injuries a year.
Police in Saskatchewan will be looking to lower that number in December, when they put impaired driving under a spotlight. Officers will be keeping a special eye out for people driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
People caught driving while under the influence can get fines, licence suspensions, vehicle seizures, mandatory ignition interlocks, and, in serious cases, jail time.
SGI is also reminding drivers about the Report Impaired Drivers program, where a person can call 911 to report a suspected impaired driver.
