A Saskatoon woman is pleading for the return of a treasured item taken after her car was broken into.
Bonnie Nicholson said she left her purse in her car Wednesday night. It was under some winter clothes, and she was tired after a late shift. She said she thought it would be safe until the next day.
But Nicholson said she found the car ransacked shortly before noon Thursday. She said thieves made off with the clothes and her purse.
Inside the purse was a heart-shaped pendant that contains ashes from her late husband, Allan Olson.
“He just showed me what real love was. We didn’t have a whole lot, but everything was about me and he just treated me like a queen,” she said in describing their 10-year marriage.
Olson died of a heart condition in 2013.
“I haven’t taken (the pendant) off since the funeral director gave it to me. I didn’t want an urn of ashes … it was just something that I could keep close to me every day,” she said.
Olson said the pendant was in her purse because the ring keeping it attached to the chain around her neck had worn through. She was going to take it into a jeweler for repairs.
“I’m just hoping that someone will hear this, or see the pictures on social media and just realize that, no questions asked, I don’t want any retribution or anything — I just want my heart back,” she said.
Olson’s friends have set up a Facebook group to help people share photos of the pendant. They’ve also put together a gofundme page to raise money for a reward.
