The preliminary hearing for one of the teen’s accused in Hannah Leflar’s murder has ended earlier than expected.
Just as Crown prosecutor Chris White was about to wrap up the case Monday, defence lawyer Greg Wilson stood and indicated to the court that the teen would commit to trial at Court of Queen’s Bench.
The preliminary hearing was underway to determine whether there was enough evidence to go forward. The now 17-year-old boy is charged with first-degree murder and will face a trial sometime this year at Court of Queen’s Bench.
A publication ban is in place preventing us from reporting both the names of the witnesses and the testimony heard.
What was heard at the start of the second week of the preliminary hearing left many of Hannah’s family member in tears. The courtroom was packed.
The teen in the prison box displayed no emotion.
This will be the second trial scheduled in the Leflar case. Another teen charged with first-degree murder already committed to stand trial. No date has been set for that to begin.
Sixteen-year-old Hannah was found murdered in her north Regina home a year ago Tuesday.
