Pink slips have been handed out to 18 people at the Evraz steel plant in Regina.
It follows 230 layoffs within the tubular division at the plant in Portland, Oregon.
While disappointed, the union tells News Talk Radio they are trying to remain upbeat despite difficulties within the industry.
There are 800 workers still employed at the Regina plant and it is highly likely they will take on all the work the Oregon plant was unable to complete.
The union is also preparing for bargaining in the coming months as the current contract ends this summer.
