Regina and surrounding communities are now home to 241,422 people.
The latest figures from Statistics Canada show a 1.87 per cent increase in our population.
The numbers up to July 1, 2015, show Regina’s census metropolitan area (CMA) population was estimated to be up by 4,427 people from 2014.
Currently, it is estimated that about 91.7 per cent of the CMA population is in Regina, which would put the population of the city proper at 221,407. Regina’s population today is estimated at 223,000.
“The recent numbers prove that City of Regina residents still have a reason to be very optimistic. Regina is a city that continues to attract people from all over the world despite the current economic circumstances,” said Mayor Michael Fougere.
Even with slower economic growth, Regina has the fifth highest growth rate for Canadian cities. Regina’s growth rate was similar to Saskatoon, which was fourth place at 2.02 per cent.
Over the past five years, Regina has experienced an average growth rate of 2.49 per cent and a 10-year rate of 1.93 per cent. The two largest growth factors were immigration (3,593) and births (3,148).
