A Regina couple wants to give back after becoming $2.5 million richer off of a Lotto 6-49 ticket.
Don Katona said it was a regular day when he walked into Regina’s Avon Rexall Drug Store to check his lottery tickets right where he bought them.
He said he had been buying tickets since he was 18-years-old and never anticipated winning millions.
When he checked his 6-49 ticket for the May 19 draw, Katona said he “had to look twice.”
Him and his wife, June Katona, said they plan on paying off debt, renovating their house, and shopping, but also giving back to charities and their family.
“There’s so many people that need help,” said Don. A loss of family members recently struck an emotional cord.
Giving back with his winnings was important to Don after losing his brother-in-law to cancer three weeks ago and his mother last year.
Don said he plans to keep buying lottery tickets.
