It’s going to be a scorching hot start to the weekend as Environment Canada has now issued a heat warning for several areas of central and southern Saskatchewan.
As of Thursday afternoon, one heat warning extended west from the Battlefords to Prince Albert and across to Hudson Bay. Heat warnings also covered Regina and Moose Jaw, Indian Head and Fort Qu’Appelle and stretched south to Estevan, Weyburn and Radville.
A building ridge of high pressure is pushing hot, humid air over the province with daytime high temperatures above 32 C and a humidex of 40 C for Friday and Saturday and overnight lows of 16 C.
Environment Canada is urging people to drink plenty of water and limit outdoor activities to the coolest times of the day or to seek out shade or cool water, or alternatively find a public building with air conditioning to keep cool.
People should watch out for health impacts from the heat like swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Young children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses are at greater risk from the heat.
