The Regina Pats showed the Lethbridge Hurricanes that luck had nothing to do with their lead in the series, as they clinched the first round series with a convincing 7-2 win.
The Hurricanes’ Tyler Wong told reporters after losing game four that the Pats were lucky to be up 3-1 in the series.
The Pats came out with an overwhelming attack, opening up with a 4-0 lead before the game was 12 minutes old with two goals from Sam Steel and Lane Zablocki. It was pretty well over by then as Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner was replaced in net.
Lethbridge was able to get the game to within two early in the third period, making it 4-2 but that was as close as it would come.
Austin Wagner, Cole Sanford and Adam Brooks iced the game with three consecutive goals as the Pats would advance to the second round of the playoffs for the second straight season. It’s the first time since the 1990 and ’91 seasons the Pats have made it to round two in consecutive years.
The Pats will await the winner of the Red Deer and Calgary series, which Red Deer leads 3-1.
Moose Jaw Advances
The Moose Jaw Warriors are also off to the second round of the playoffs after beating Prince Albert 5-0 in game five.
The Warriors looked to have an easy time finishing off the Raiders with 7-0 and 5-0 wins to close out the series.
Dryden Hunt and Tanner Jeannot both scored twice and Zach Sawchenko grabbed his second straight shut out in the win.
The Warriors now will wait to see who wins between the Brandon Wheat Kings and Edmonton Oil Kings as they’re tied 2-2 in the series.
