The new larger Saskatchewan Party caucus will meet for the first time at the legislature Wednesday afternoon.
It will include 14 new faces, including Muhammad Fiaz, the first Pakistani Muslim to become an MLA.
Arriving in Canada in 1995, Fiaz says his first task was learning to speak English.
“It was a big challenge. I never would have imagined as was going to run as an MLA,” he told the CJME Morning Show.
Fiaz won the contested nomination against incumbent Bill Hutchison and then campaign long before the writ dropped.
He contends his priority through the whole process of the election was to learn.
“Who is running, who (is) getting a lead, the campaign system, how to campaign and the volunteerism.”
Fiaz’s seat in Regina Pasqua went down to the last poll; he won by 275 votes.
