Regina’s mayor is offering an apology after construction ended, halfway through the project on McCarthy Boulevard, prompting some drivers to call the result undriveable.
“This is not an acceptable way to do a project over the summertime. For the communities who drive there each and every day, we apologize for that, it is something we have to do better on – I’ve talked to the city manager about making sure this is better,” said Michael Fougere.
He said a project should not take an entire summer, only to be finished the next year.
The construction ended with a strip of pavement next to the median covered with ridges, almost like a rumble strip.
Fougere blamed the “sub-par” cement used to do the work.
He added the plan for the work was also changed – originally it wasn’t going to have sidewalks, but they were added in later.
The mayor made sure to mention that this kind of thing rarely happens in Regina, but he’s talked to the city manager about making sure this doesn’t happen again in future.
