Memorial walk to mark 1 year since Kandice Singbeil's disappearance

More than three dozen people walked in the rain with umbrellas and white roses Saturday to mark the one-year anniversary of Kandice Marie Singbeil’s disappearance.

The 33-year-old mother of two was last seen riding her distinctive Classic Cruiser bicycle through downtown Saskatoon on May 25, 2015.

“We’re still hopeful that someone will come forward with information surrounding her disappearance,” Singbeil’s younger sister said.

Jenna Singbeil said the past year has not been easy for her family — Kandice missed the milestone of her daughter’s first birthday in February, and her nine-year-old son has started asking a lot of questions.

“Seeing them grow up without a mom is extremely difficult,” she said.

Originally from Swift Current, Sask., Kandice was living in Saskatoon at the time of her disappearance.

Police said a year ago Singbeil had dyed blonde hair cut just above the shoulders; she’s five feet four inches tall, weighs around 166 pounds with brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a black jacket and dark-coloured pants, while riding a dark-coloured “Supercycle Cruiser Classic” with whitewall tires and a wood-grained chain guard.

Mavis Bloomfield doesn’t have a personal connection to the family but was compelled to join the memorial walk and vigil.

“When a person that you love is missing, your spirit, I feel, becomes broken,” she said.

“You have so many unanswered questions like ‘why did it happen? What happened?’ and your spirit will never be at peace until you know what happened.”

Jenna Singbeil said she will always remember her sister as a person who would lend a helping hand to other people.

“She was always the one with the loudest laugh in the room and she had the biggest smile. She was loved so much by everyone that was in her life.”
