The University of Calgary has paid a $20,000 ransom in order to regain access to its own email system after a recent cyber attack.
The attacks started at the end of May, locking staff, students and faculty out of their emails.
University vice president Linda Dalgetty says it’s unfortunate to pay the ransom, but the school could not risk losing critical data.
Police are investigating and the U of C says it hopes to regain control of its systems quickly.
