The Washington Capitals have signed Regina Pats defenseman Connor Hobbs to a three-year entry level deal.
The Capitals picked Hobbs in the 2015 entry draft in the fifth round with the 143rd-overall pick.
Hobbs, who is from Saskatoon, had 41 points – 19 goals and 22 assists – in 58 games for the Pats this past season. In the playoffs he had 10 points – four goals and six assists – in 12 games.
Hobbs was the winner of the Charles Johnson Memorial award as the team’s best defenceman.
The Capitals have also announced the signing of fellow Pats defenseman Colby Williams. Williams signed a one-year contract with the Capitals American Hockey League Affiliate, Hershey Bears.
Williams was also picked by the Capitals in the 2015 entry draft in the sixth round with the 173rd-overall pick.
Williams, who is from Regina, missed a large chunk of this past season because of injuries. Despite his short season, he still managed to score 12 points – five goals and seven assists – in 19 regular season games.
Williams had a strong showing in the playoffs where he managed nine points – two goals and seven assists – in 12 games.
Both players are taking part in the Capitals development camp in Washington this week.
