Winning football isn’t always fun to watch. The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ offence will have to be less exciting to have success in 2019.
Two-time 1,000-yard rusher William Powell will have to have a third 1,000-yard campaign in order for the Riders to host a playoff game this season. The aerial attack will have to be intermediate.
Powell believes he can be a good pass-catcher out of the backfield. That’s good to hear. Marcus Thigpen could definitely be another weapon to run screen and swing passes out of the backfield.
The reality of it is this. Zach Collaros is an injury-prone quarterback who threw more interceptions than touchdowns in 2018.
That’s not likely to change if the Riders look to throw deep in any given game. The West Division is always tough. Led by Powell, the Riders need to be among the league leaders in time of possession if they hope to be among the league leaders in the standings.
