Rylan Wiens led a strong showing by divers from Saskatoon at the Junior National Diving Champinships in Winnipeg over the weekend.
Wiens brought the crowd at the Pan Am Pool to its feet by scoring a perfect dive in the boys 14-15 platform event.
Wiens is the first diver to hit perfect 10’s in the National Championships. Teammate Jamie Spilchak also brought home a bronze medal in the boys 14-15 1-metre event.
Spilchak and Wiens went on to take silver in the 3-metre synchronized dive.
With his performance in Winnipeg, Wiens earned a spot for himself and coach Mary Carroll at the World Championships, which are to be held in Russia this fall.
Saskatoon’s Jonah Cey also finished 7th in the boys 16-18 platform dive.
For the girls, Saskatoon’s Elizabeth DeCecco made the finals in both the 1 and 3-metre events, finishing 11th and 10th, respectively.
