It’s been almost a decade since Harry Potter fans got to dress up and head to a book store at midnight, but on Saturday they did just that.
The Chapters book store in Regina joined thousands of others across the country in holding a midnight release party for the 8th story in the series, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II. It’s not a novel, the book is the script of the new play that’s currently being performed on a London stage, taking place after the epilogue of the last book.
Coral Kostick is a manager at Chapters and was there for the party.
“It was amazing, it was magical, there were so many people in costume of all ages.”
About 700 people showed up at the store for the party. And while Kostick said the median age was about 25, those who would have been kids when the series first began, she said there were quite a few who were younger.
“There was lots of young kids. I didn’t expect, for a midnight event, for there to be as many young Harry Potters walking around as there were.”
The store didn’t just release the book, but had all sorts of games available as well: things like a snitch scavenger hunt, Quidditch pong, magic wand making, and photo booths with Harry Potter-themed props.
Kostick said she thought she was a Harry Potter fan, that is until she met some “Potter-heads”.
“These people, I mean they live, breathe, know everything there is to know about Harry Potter and I cannot claim to be one of them,” she said laughing.
