The City of Regina released a new concept design for Maple Leaf Pool on Thursday.
The design was developed after what the city called “extensive community consultation.”
“We heard from area residents that Maple Leaf Pool is a community hub and a gathering place for family and friends to spend the day together,” Mayor Michael Fougere said in a media release.
“We believe we have achieved a design that will best serve the community, from both an accessibility and a sociability perspective.”
The L-shaped pool design was favoured by more than 400 citizens who offered their feedback to the city. The city said the shape “supports all swimming levels and provides areas for socializing and playing games in the water while maintaining deck and green space around the pool.”
The pool’s “zero-depth entry” offers improved access for children and those who have mobility issues. As well, an accessible lift and table are to be featured in the new change room and washroom facility.
The cost of the project is estimated at $4.5 million.
The next phase is finalizing the pool’s design and preparing to start the process of accepting construction tenders.
