Car chase ends with dramatic crash in Regina woman's front yard

Nicole Frank woke early Sunday morning to her husband’s truck smashed, police all around and a vehicle overturned on her front lawn.

She said her husband was woken up by the sound of a crash then fighting, but they didn’t investigate because they thought it happened next door. It wasn’t until their doorbell rang that they went outside.

“My husband’s truck had been hit so hard from behind that it swerved over onto our grass and had hit my car. A Jeep, completely, like it had done a full 360, and it had launched through the air and landed in the bushes on our lawn.”

Later that morning two women came back to the scene to watch the Jeep be taken away. These were the two women who had been in the vehicle and gone through the harrowing ordeal.

Frank and her husband invited them inside, then she said the whole story spilled out.

According to Frank, the driver said she was being the designated driver for her friend, and had gone to pick her up at a downtown bar. On the way, a dark-coloured vehicle started following her and continued to follow her after she picked up her friend.

“It started going faster and faster, turned into a high-speed chase down Albert Street. Eventually she said the other vehicle was like swerving into oncoming traffic and everything.”

Frank said the women told her they were on the phone with police as this was happening.

“Then they turned off onto 25th Avenue and the vehicle was ramming them from behind several times. And then finally they hit them so hard from behind that when they got to our yard it sent them completely out of control.”

Frank said the women told her the men who had been chasing them got out and started beating them, threatening them with guns and robbed them.

“They ran, like, they thought they were going to die this night.”

The two women eventually ran away and tried to get help from people in the homes – that’s when Frank heard her doorbell.

“They said it was absolutely terrifying.”

Frank said the girls were pretty shaken up when she spoke to them, the driver told her she’s a university student and doesn’t know where she’s going to find the $700 for the insurance deductible.

Frank called it insane that something like this happened just outside her home.

“I’ve thought about everything – lucky it didn’t hit the house, lucky no bullets were fired.”

According to a police news release, four men were arrested after a crime spree later that morning that included armed robbery and a shooting.
