A Saskatoon woman still believes in the power of wrapping paper.
“It’s the presentation, it’s what makes your eyes go bright and you get excited,” said Susan Gallagher, owner of Soul Paper in Saskatoon.
She doesn’t believe wrapping presents is a dying art. Gallagher said a lot of people don’t think they have the time to wrap their Christmas gifts, but taking the effort to wrap a present is something that’s always appreciated.
“I think that when people have the time in this busy season, I think it gives them joy to wrap their gift as well,” she explained.
For Gallagher, the paper is just as important as what’s inside the box.
“I know for myself — even before we had the shop — I would specifically go out looking for a special paper for a special person, (thinking) I’ve got this special gift and now let’s make it as beautiful as it can,” she said.
To make it look like it was wrapped by a professional, Gallagher suggests scoring all the edges, using two-sided tape and cutting with a knife — not scissors.
To add extra special touches to the gifts, she said you could add an ornament or embellishment to the outside.
Soul Paper has 200 different kinds of wrapping paper. They order in from places all around the world, including: Australia, Hungary, India and Italy.
