Environment Canada is warning residents in southwestern Saskatchewan to prepare for near-zero visibility conditions after it issued several snow squall warnings on Thursday.
The weather service said periods of brief but intense snowfall are expected to combine as a weather system moves through the area, rapidly reducing visibility in some areas.
“Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common,” the alert reads.
As of 6:05 p.m., the alert was in effect for areas including Assiniboia, Gravelbourg, Coronach, Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Val Marie and Cypress Hills.
