The smell of fresh cooking turkey filled the air at the Friendship Inn Thanksgiving Monday.
Hundreds of people packed into tables and lined up around the block of 20th street to get a piece of the free feast.
“It makes me feel good,” said Donyvon Horsc, who was one of many volunteers. “I like helping the public and all the families.”
Horsc said he does it because he used to use the service when he was a kid.
“I know a lot of the people eating,” he said. “I love helping here (Friendship Inn) because they used to help me.”

Families got turkey, mashed potatoes, freshly boiled veggies, and even pumpkin pie for desert.
“We’ve seen more families join us for Thanksgiving and usually they don’t come year round,” said Friendship Inn Volunteer and Event Coordinator, Rebecca Zakreski. “It’s not sad, it’s a community place and we see the joy of families sharing a meal together.”
Zakreski said the people give her joy each and every day.
“It will be a rainy or snowy day and someone will come in and say ‘I’m so happy today, I’m having a great day, you should be having a great day as well’ it’s so kind to here that,” she said.
It’s expected over 1,300 people were served Thanksgiving dinner.
