Saskatoon's advanced, homebound voters prepare to cast their ballot

With election day fast approaching, voters are already starting to think about casting their ballots.

That includes those who will be voting in advanced polls, and those who are physically unable to leave their house to get to a voting station.

In order to cast a ballot as a homebound voter, the voter must fill out a homebound voter application and have it submitted by Oct. 14.

“After that, we will be contacting them to set up a date and time for the team to go by,” said Catherine Folkerson, returning officer for 2016 Saskatoon Civic Elections. “They come to their house and bring a ballot and a ballot box and they vote right at home.”

Folkerson also wants people to know that advanced polls open this weekend, and once again, they will be open to anyone who wants to cast a ballot before voting day, Oct. 26.

“There are a number of reasons why people may not be able to vote on election day,” Folkerson said. “Especially if you can think of someone, maybe in the health care field, working 12 hour shifts. Maybe a Saturday, a day off is a great day to vote.”
 
Folkerson cautioned against showing up on the first day of advanced voting, as that is typically the busiest day to so.
