The Saskatchewan Roughriders have a strong chance to embarrass the Canadian Football League and I’m actually hoping this happens.
Even Rider Rob Bagg tweeted the interesting reality that could play out with his Roughriders having a better record than all but one eastern team.
That would make the Riders the sixth best team in a nine team league and miss the playoffs, giving a team with a lower record a playoff spot.
The East Division for whatever reason, has been abysmal for much of the season. The west is winning every inter-divisional game and that has led to the clear discrepancy between divisions. The top four teams in the west have better records than any team in the east, yet two of those western teams will have to go on the road in the playoffs while two teams in the east get the benefit of home field advantage.
Of course, equalization to keep the east propped up isn’t new to us in western Canada.
So here’s hoping the Saskatchewan Roughriders finish off their improbable run and show just how flawed the current CFL divisional format is.
