An investigation is being launched after a woman was found dead in her cell at Pine Grove Correctional Centre on Wednesday evening.
Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Corrections and Policing said in a release the woman was found unresponsive around 7 p.m.
She was an inmate at the correctional centre, which is located in Prince Albert.
Her name and age have not been released, but next of kin were notified.
The cause of death wasn’t noted either, though the ministry said it wasn’t related to COVID-19.
The release noted Prince Albert police are investigating the death, while the ministry is conducting an internal review. The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service is also involved.
