For the third time in less than six weeks, an inmate has died at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre.
According to the Ministry of Corrections and Policing, the man was found unresponsive in his cell early Sunday. He was pronounced dead at about 1:20 a.m.
The ministry’s media release didn’t provide any details about the man’s death other than to say it wasn’t related to COVID-19. It also didn’t include the man’s age or the reason why he was being held at the facility.
There also were deaths reported at the jail on July 9 and Aug. 7.
The ministry said it will be conducting an internal investigation, while the RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service also look into the man’s death.
