Thanksgiving is right around the corner and the Regina Food Bank is preparing for a drive-through food drive.
John Bailey, the CEO, says the pandemic forced them to figure out an alternative to events that they would normally have.
“Our service levels are way up in comparison to past years,” Bailey said. “COVID-19 has really changed the way we have done our food raising this year.”
“This is generally the time when we will do our city-wide food drive. We couldn’t gather a bunch of people in one place, so we decided to do a drive-through food drive.”
The event runs outside Evraz Place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. People will be able to do contactless drop-off of non-perishable food items to help those dealing with food insecurity in Regina.
“Not only has the need increased over the course of the pandemic, if we do ever experience a second wave we expect the demand to increase even more,” Bailey said. “Events like this will be very important for us.”
Pasta, pasta sauces, canned proteins, canned soups and stews are all items that are in high demand.

“The logistics of hosting a drive-through will actually be a little bit simpler rather than coordinating pickup throughout the city,” Bailey added. “We are hoping this will allow us to operate with fewer volunteers and is in the interest of practicing the best guidelines with Sask. health.”
“We hope the city will be there for us as we get through this, and as we move into the new year.”
