A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in a federal penitentiary for killing a 17-year-old man on the Star Blanket First Nation in January.
Shauntay Keewatin initially was charged with second-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Fort Qu’Appelle Provincial Court on Oct. 19. He was sentenced during an appearance in that court Thursday.
In the evening of Jan. 31, the RCMP received a report of an altercation at a home on the Star Blanket First Nation. Officers from the File Hills First Nations Police Service responded and found the 17-year-old dead inside the house.
Keewatin, who also lives on the First Nation, was arrested shortly after the victim was found.
