Estevan police have been called in to investigate what led to the death of a 44-year-old woman in the custody of Kamsack RCMP.
According to a news release from the RCMP, the woman was arrested at a home on the Cote First Nation on Saturday at 3:20 p.m.
The next morning at about 9:30 a.m., they say an ambulance was called to the detachment “as the female required medical attention.”
The RCMP was told the woman died in hospital at about 11 a.m.
The woman’s identity is not being released.
The RCMP says it has asked the Ministry of Justice to appoint an independent observer.
