Coaches, administrators, anybody within the university sports landscape must use the word “student athlete” so to make it appear these kids are there for more than just football.
Take for instance signing day. It’s Feb. 1 when high school grads pick which university they are going to attend or – to say it more openly – which team they are going to play for.
Seventeen- and 18-year-olds sit in front of national audiences to put on a hat or shirt, but Bleacher Report and high school recruits out of Utah went too far in a pre-recorded video where a high school kid gets into a helicopter and tells the pilot to take him to his new home.
He landed at Brigham Young University with a group of friends and family and mascot celebrating his big decision.
Ridiculous.
And you wonder why athletes seem to be more and more ego driven and selfish. It’s not so much them as it is the big wigs making big money feeding those egos at an increasingly younger age.
