The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are using a billboard to try and convert Rider fans to the Blue and Gold.
A billboard at the corner of Dewdney Avenue and Lewvan Drive features former Riders Ryan Smith and Weston Dressler wearing Bomber uniforms. Written on the sign is simply “it’s only a six hour drive to Winnipeg.”
In a statement, the Bombers said “The Winnipeg-Saskatchewan rivalry is one of the longest standing rivalries in all sport, and it’s always fun to engage back and forth with it. The billboards are just another way to get the great fans in both cities thinking about the 2017 season, and maybe convert a couple of green to blue and gold.”
The tactic has been used by both teams in the past, with Rider billboards appearing in other cities as well.
When asked for a response, a Rider spokesperson said “imitation is the highest form of flattery.”
