As expected, dysfunction within the Toronto Argos organization has carried into free agency.
Some of the Canadian Football League’s most talented players are available for the taking and the Argos don’t have a general manager or a head coach. Acting general manager Spencer Zimmerman is attempting to stock the roster.
It came down to the Riders and Argos with last year’s CFL outstanding offensive lineman Derek Dennis. The Riders won out. 1000-yard receiver Ernest Jackson was on the market after his contract expired with the RedBlacks. The Alouettes and Argos were both hoping to land the star pass catcher. The Alouettes won out.
The criticism is not a reflection of Zimmerman. He may go on to be a top executive in the CFL. The blame lies with owners Bell Canada and Larry Tanenbaum.
Trying to sign players without being able to tell them who their GM or coach will be is another Argo low.
