RCMP say they no longer need help identifying a man who may have been connected to the theft of a Gordie Howe jersey from a small-town Saskatchewan arena.
The signed Detroit Red Wings jersey was meant to be sold in a raffle to raise funds for the arena in Asquith, about 40 kilometres west of Saskatoon.
The event was nearly ruined when the jersey was stolen on Jan. 29. The story generated national attention, and ultimately, the fundraiser was a success after a local family donated a second jersey signed by Mr. Hockey.
Police initially issued a release saying they wanted to speak to a man who reportedly came into Al Anderson’s Source for Sports in Saskatoon asking how much money he could get for a framed jersey.
In an update Tuesday, investigators stated they received assistance to identify the man shown and no longer needed help finding the person of interest.
No charges have been laid in the case and the investigation continues.
