An investigation is underway after a 59-year-old male inmate died at the Regina Reintegration Unit on Smith Street.
According to a release from the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, the man was found unresponsive in his room on Thursday evening. Corrections staff called paramedics and started life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at around 10:20 p.m.
The ministry said the death wasn’t related to COVID-19, but didn’t release the cause of death or the man’s identity.
The Regina Police Service and Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating, and the ministry is conducting its own internal investigation.
The man’s next of kin have been told of his death.
