SaskParty candidate Jim Lemaigre was the winner of the by-election held in Athabasca this week, beating out long-serving NDP politician Georgina Jolibois by a significant margin in the northern riding. Wudrick says the protests are a major inconvenience and annoyance, but don’t meet the high threshold in the act to justify use of such enormous power. 11:00 – Canada’s inflation rate passed 5% in January for the first time in more than 30 years, driven higher by prices for housing, groceries, and gasoline, but the story is even worse when it comes to food. Canada’s food inflation rate reached 6.5%, the biggest year-over-year jump in more than a decade. Professor Sylvain Charlebois joins Mike to tell us which products are expected to jump in prices, and why he’s warning Canadians to beware of “shrinkflation” and “shelflation.”
