Southeastern Saskatchewan just can’t get a break.
A special weather statement was issued by Environment Canada on Wednesday afternoon for areas of the southeast that have been dealing with the aftereffects of recent winter storms.
The statement covers areas around Carlyle, Oxbow, Carnduff, Bienfait, Stoughton, Estevan, Weyburn, Radville, Milestone, Moosomin, Grenfell, Kiping and Wawota.
It’s also in effect for the Regina, Fort Qu’Appelle, Indian Head, Lumsden, Pilot Butte, Kamsack, Canora, Preeceville, Yorkton, Melville and Esterhazy regions.
“A broad area of rain will develop over the United States on Thursday and move into portions of the southeastern Prairies on Thursday night,” the statement said. “This area of moderate rain will move slowly northwards, persisting through Friday before beginning to taper off on Friday night.
“Rainfall will be heavy at times, and storm-total rainfall will reach 30 to 50 (millimetres) in many places. Embedded showers or thunderstorms could produce locally higher rainfall totals in excess of 60 mm.”
The weather service noted the storm is still forming in the U.S., so the forecast could change as the storm takes shape over the next 12 to 24 hours.
